UK (University of Hertfordshire) 2022 Rookies: University of Hertfordshire remains top in the UK for creative media and entertainment
For the third year in a row, the University of Hertfordshire has been crowned the best school in the UK for creative media and entertainment, according to the new Rookies rankings.
Judged by industry professionals, the Rookies ranking is widely seen as one of the most prestigious in the sector. Schools are assessed by the quality of graduating students’ portfolios, reflecting how well the university or college has prepared its students for professional creative work.
The University of Hertfordshire has once again been ranked 1st overall in the UK, and 20th in the world – up two places from last year’s international rankings.
The University was also judged to be top in the UK in four specific subjects, leading the way in: Production Excellence (VFX & Animation), Production Excellence (Console & PC Games), 2D Animation, and Concept Art & Illustration. All four subjects also earned the University a place in the top 10 internationally.
The University’s School of Creative Arts has a long-established reputation for offering high-quality courses, with Animation and Games Design recently ranked top in the UK in the 2023 Guardian University Guide. Two graduates also won top prizes at the recent TIGA UK Games Education Awards for outstanding achievements on their Games Art & Design courses.
With state-of-the-art facilities and industry links embedded into the teaching, Creative Arts students enjoy a lively, creative community that gives them the practical skills and knowledge to forge successful careers in the sector. The Rookies rankings also demonstrate the excellence of our newest courses, including the Comics and Concept Art degree established in 2021.
Dr Mairi Watson, Pro Vice Chancellor (Education and Student Experience) and Interim Dean of Creative Arts, said: “This news rounds off a fantastic few weeks for the School of Creative Arts, following impressive results in the Guardian rankings and TIGA Awards. I am very proud that we continue to place so highly both nationally and internationally.
“This ranking is based directly on the outstanding work of our graduates. It is testament to their dedication and creativity, and the dedicated hard work of our faculty who continue to provide world-class teaching”.
