UAE (American University of Sharjah) AUS student named UNICEF Youth Advocate
American University of Sharjah (AUS) student Saeed Bin Omar Almutaiwei has been selected recently as a UNICEF Youth Advocate following a nomination by the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood on behalf of the UAE Government.
A committed young leader and an advocate for children and youth, he is a member of the Emirati Children’s Parliament, the Emirates Planning Association, and Hatta Youth Council. He also founded a startup in the entertainment sector one year ago.
He is also a recipient of a certificate from the Model United Nations Simulations Institute at Georgetown University in 2018 and a certificate from Al Jalila Foundation for effective participation in the Destination Medicine Summit in 2017. He has contributed to and spoken at several events and workshops on leadership and empowerment, including the UAE Government Leaders Program and the National Technology and Innovation Festival of the Ministry of Education.
Having started his advocacy work at the age of 15, the economics major said that his decision to join AUS to pursue his undergraduate degree stemmed from his belief in the role of education excellence to further support his work.
“By joining AUS, I am looking forward to sharpening my skills, gaining new expertise and learning more about how I can contribute to various world causes. As a UNICEF Youth Advocate, I work in advocacy and planning with multiple parties within the public and private sectors and with non-governmental organizations. Our work covers many areas, particularly youth empowerment, education and children rights. I am passionate about being active in society to support the growth of children and youth. The UAE provides a supportive environment in which these aspirations can thrive,” said Almutaiwei.
AUS provides students from all backgrounds and with diverse ambitions for the future the opportunity to learn, grow and thrive. Students are challenged academically and benefit from the expertise of our world-class faculty, many of whom are leaders in their field.
