Ghana (University of Professional Studies) UPSA introduces three new postgraduate programmes
The University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) has received accreditation from the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) for the introduction of three new postgraduate programmes.
They are PhD in International Security and Intelligence, Master of Arts in Media & Digital Communication Management, and Master of Philosophy (MPhil) in Media & Digital Communication Management.
This brings the total number of graduate programmes to 24 as of November 2022, with several other programmes at various stages of accreditation. The university had only 10 graduate programmes in 2017.
The newest academic programmes will be rolled out in January 2023, and admissions for the 2022/2023 academic year are already underway.
The Vice-Chancellor of UPSA, Prof Abednego F. O. Amartey, made the announcement during the Fifth Session of the 14th Congregation of the University, which saw the graduation of some 128 students.
Prof. Amartey noted that the world had changed forever and in the process challenged leaders to be creative and innovative, adding that the UPSA graduate programmes are aimed at bridging the gap between academia and industry needs.
Prof. Amartey said the UPSA had built a formidable reputation for imparting professional skills training in marketing, accounting, banking, finance, among others.
He said the new PhD in International Security and Intelligence will leverage this exceptional professionalism by incorporating theoretical and practical teaching and research training in the design, execution, and presentation of original research.
“The uniqueness of our doctoral programme is expressed in the deliberate use of a collaborative blend of local and international instructional faculty, researchers, and research supervisors to help ensure exposure to diverse learning experiences with a focus on the growth of developing economies,” he said.
The Vice-Chancellor said the Master of Arts and MPhil in Media and Digital Communication Management aim at equipping students with the requisite knowledge and skills in digital media management while training them to prepare, deploy, and manage audio-visual content for online platforms.
Earlier in the year, the UPSA introduced three other new programs at the graduate level. They include Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Corporate Communications, Master of Philosophy (MPhil) in Accounting, and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Accounting.
Enrolment for the first batch of students on these programmes has already been completed, and academic work for the 2022/2023 academic year has begun in earnest.
