Universidad Politcnica de Valencia (Spain) The boards of directors of the UV and the UPV resume face-to-face coordination meetings

In a context marked by the approval of the Science Law, the labour reform, the draft Organic Law of the University System (LOSU), changes in the accreditation processes of university teaching staff, the deployment of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the increase in the costs of electricity and inflation, the government teams of the two large public universities of Valencia have resumed face-to-face coordination meetings.

During this meeting, the governing teams of the Universitat de València and the Universitat Politècnica de València have valued very positively the work of the Valencian Institute of Economic Research (IVIE) for the development of the Multiennial Financing Plan (PPF) of the Valencian Public University System (SUPV) which, at the moment, is in a process of review and improvement.

This has addressed the need to demand from the state government the establishment of a special VAT regime for energy costs, as well as the need for a greater volume of resources to face the current inflationary context, especially in the electricity supply, a pressing problem in the research field that involves a significant volume of energy consumption.

Along the same lines, the need has been raised for the legislative changes promoted at the state level to be compensated in the university system, as well as the financing of the costs of attending to the management of the new models of research calls.

Together with the additional resources required for the stabilization of university staff, emphasis has been placed on the importance of signing the collective agreement of Valencian public universities announced by the Generalitat, which will allow the creation of new contractual figures that respond to the current needs of the Valencian public university system, as well as the improvement of the remuneration of its employees.

The UV and the UPV have highlighted their leadership at European level within the framework of the Erasmus program, making the city of Valencia the European capital of Erasmus. They have also highlighted the international dimension of all the Valencian public universities, which participate, all of them, in consortia within the framework of the European Universities program promoted by the European Union, which shows the high quality of the public university system of the Valencian Community.

Finally, the Principal of the Polytechnic University of Valencia and the Principal of the University of Valencia have remarked that, throughout these four decades of validity of the Statute of Autonomy of the Valencian Community, it has been achieved, in a joint work of the universities and governments, to achieve that the Valencian Public University System is an internationalized system of excellence.
